ASHA Collegiate Program
Goals:
- To promote education of horsemen in the safety, care and training of the versatile stock horse
- To enhance the education of college students interested in the versatile stock horse
- To use the horse as a means to teach students how to represent themselves with responsibility, character and teamwork
In order to achieve these goals, Colleges and Universities in the United States will:
1. Provide class instruction in riding and training a versatile stock horse.
2. Encourage collegiate student participation in ASHA Events
3. Select and recognize official college or university stock/ranch horse traveling teams to represent them in ASHA competitions.
4. Select and recognize official college or university stock/ranch horse Varsity point teams to represent them in ASHA competitions.
In order to achieve these goals, ASHA will:
- Approve ASHA Collegiate shows, designate and/or approve regular ASHA shows to offer an ASHA Collegiate show within their regular show, publicize ASHA Collegiate shows and keep ASHA Collegiate Show Results in the Official Yearly Records and on the ASHA website.
- Designate specific ASHA shows that will offer an ASHA Collegiate Stock/Ranch Horse Team Competition with both a High Point and Reserve High Point Team Award. At least two teams with six (6) members competing will be necessary for a Champion and Reserve Champion High Point designation and award to be given.
At these regular approved ASHA shows, collegiate competitors are eligible for awards in their respective general ASHA division. Collegiate competitors will show in the general ASHA divisions of Non-Pro, Limited Non-Pro and Novice. For team awards, each team will be allowed to utilize points from two riders per ASHA division (Non Pro, Limited Non Pro and Novice) and these point riders will be determined at the time of entry by their coach(s). The points that these two riders earned against other point riders entered will be counted towards naming a champion and reserve champion collegiate stock/ranch team of the show. Having two point riders in each of the above divisions, does not limit the number of team members each school can bring, but does level the playing field for schools who may not travel with a large number of students. .
- Approve special ASHA Collegiate Shows that will be open to all collegiate members and that will offer an ASHA Collegiate Stock/Ranch Horse Team Competition with both a High Point and Reserve High Point Team Award. At least two teams with six (6) members competing will be necessary for a Champion and Reserve Champion High Point Team designation and award to be given.
At these approved ASHA Collegiate Shows, all collegiate competitors will be allowed to show in the ASHA divisions of Non-Pro, Limited Non-Pro and Novice. All competitors will be scored and placed and are eligible for individual Collegiate Show awards. For team awards, each team will be allowed to utilize points from two riders per ASHA division (Non Pro, Limited Non Pro and Novice) and these point riders will be determined at the time of entry by their coach(s) The points that these two riders earned against other point riders will be counted towards naming a champion and reserve champion collegiate stock/ranch horse team of the show.
